Just before noon on Sunday,volunteers are getting ready to serve a
lunch of fried chicken ,corn and peas in Americus,Georgia,USA.Kenyota
Peterson stands ready and she has packed with ice and drinks to go with
the 246meals that will be served in the next hour.
Kenyota Peterson, aged 16, has offerd an important he;p around the
kichen and dining area.This is her first experience as a volunteer and
she is a role model due to her hard work and cheerful spirit.
Kenyota is one of the young volunteers who have been an important
part of shelter operations since a string of deadly tornadoes swept
through this part of Georgia three days ago."This is my first time
volunteering, and i like it . I thought it would never happen to us
,but now i know it can.I like volunteering because I'm putting all my
energy to good use by helping other people,"Kenyota said.
At the end of a long day, Kenyota was cleaning the floor after
hours of filling and refilling ice and drinks.She flashed a smile when
someone called her a hero for being such a good role model for other
young people,who are also discovering the value of volunteer work.
