第二节:
One Possible Version
Recently, recycling textbooks has been put into practice in some provinces in China. As far as I am concerned, it is a good way which will benefit both society and us students.
For one thing, it is good news to students from poor families who can’t afford textbooks. For another, recycling textbooks can save natural resources. We are cutting down too many trees every day. In the long run, it helps develop the students’ environmental awareness. What’s more, students may learn to share and work with others through recycling textbooks.
To sum up, I consider recycling textbooks useful and helpful. And I still hope students shouldn’t damage their textbooks and keep them clean for the benefit of the next student to use them.

Text 1
M: Thank you for coming with me. I have no idea what gift to buy.
W: Well, take your time. Look around and maybe you’ll find one.
Text 2
W: Good morning, can I help you?
M: Yes, I’d like to know something about the weather in Arizona in the coming week.
W: Well, it will be fairly hot and there will be much rain.
M: I see. Thanks very much for your help.
Text 3
W: Where are you from?
M: I’m from Atlanta. But I live in New York now.
W: I live in Washington D.C.
Text 4
W: Oh, John, how much do you pay for electricity and telephone services?
M: My electricity bill is about 50 dollars a month and my telephone bill is usually 24 dollars a month.
W: How much do you pay for transportation?
M: 30 dollars a month.
Text 5
M: I don’t know what I’m going to do! It gonna be impossible to make ends meet if I lose my job!
W: Don’t worry. I don’t think you’re going to lose your job over one mistake.
Text 6
W: So what do you think you are going to do when you graduate, John?
M: I’m not sure. My dad says I should work in information technology. You know, something with computers.
W: Is that what your dad does?
M: Not really. He is an engineer.
W: How about you? What are you interested in doing?
M: Well. I’m interested in medicine. I’d love to be a doctor.
W: Oh. What subjects are you good at?
M: Biology is my best subject. And I’m also pretty good at science. Then, what’s your plan after graduation?
W: I want to be a teacher. I think it interesting to stay with kids.
Text 7
W: Hello. Is this Joe’s Auto Repair Shop?
M: Yes, it is. Can I help you?
W: Yes, please. This is Mrs. Jones. I’m calling about my car and my son’s sports car. Have they been repaired yet?
M: Your car has been repaired, but the sports car is being repaired right now.
W: I see. Tell me, when can I pick it up?
M: Come by at four o’clock.
W: When can my son pick up his car?
M: Two hours after you pick up yours.
Text 8
W: Are you busy tomorrow night? I’m going over to the Workers Club for volleyball if you’d like to come along.
M: Isn’t that far away?
W: Not really. If you take the No. 3 bus, you can get there in ten mi¬nutes. And if volleyball doesn’t interest you, they’ve got a huge indoor swimming pool, a weight room, and indoor tracks. It’s a great place to meet people.
M: Now that you mentioned it, it would be nice to get away from the computer center for a change, and I really should get some more exercise. Working up a sweat in a ball game or the weight room would be nice. I’ve got so fat.
W: Look at me —You’re not the only one. In high school I had a lot more time to do sports activities. Now what little spare time you have must be used in doing exercise. At least the club is open until 12 pm.
M: I guess it’s worth a visit. Did you say you’re going tomorrow night?
W: Yeah.
M: OK, I’ll come, too. How about meeting me in front of the cinema at eight, and we’ll catch the bus there.
W: Sure, see you then.
Text 9
W: Hi, Austin, I’m just calling to see if you are OK.
M: I’m fine, but I seem to be a bit lost.
W: Ok, where are you right now?
M: I have no idea. I don’t see any road signs.
W: Do you see anything around you, like a hotel or a restaurant?
M: There is a bar called Q Bar in front of me.
W: I know where that is. You must be on Queen Street.
M: So have I passed the street you live on yet?
W: Unfortunately you must have passed it a while ago.
M: I really get no sense of direction, do I?
W: Don’t worry. That’s quite normal in a strange city. I can tell you how to get here. Do you get an up-to-date map in your car?
M: Yes, I’m looking at one now.
W: Do you see Queen Street?
M: Yes.
W: Good. You need to go back the way you came. Follow it east for about 5 miles. You get to a crossroads. Turn right, then you’ll be on James Street. Follow that for 3.5 miles. Turn right at the second traffic lights, and then park your car. My house is the third house on the right.
M: I think I’ve got it. But I might call you again when I get to your street.
W: No problem. Drive safely.
Text 10
M: Could you suggest some ways to bring family members closer together?
W: Well, I feel it is very important for families to have regular meals to¬gether. One of my good childhood memories was dinner with my parents and two sisters. Because my husband and I both worked and our three children were busy with their studies, we seldom had a chance to get together as a fam¬ily. But we thought it would be possible for us to sit down and enjoy meals together every week. First we tried setting fixed days: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. But almost everyone was unhappy. Then my son had the idea that everyone told his or her most convenient days and I would choose the two best days. For a while the children were still unhappy with the idea. They said they would rather spend the time with their friends playing sports. Gradually, though, they began to see the evenings together as interesting and helpful. We loved it a lot. We made plans for trips. We discussed each other’s problems. After a couple of months anyone who had to miss a family meal felt regretful. And now we all feel that we have been able to build stronger relationships within the family than we had before.
